The challenging site is long and narrow, between an established, fine-grain activity centre street, and an elevated rail corridor, but benefits from its north-facing orientation and direct adjacency to the station. In guiding the design, we investigated the established streetscape grain, streetscape proportions and visibility profiles for varying street wall heights and upper-level setbacks.

Murrumbeena is on the Dandenong Line, providing direct links to Universities, major employment and technology precincts, cultural destinations, regional nodes, the Melbourne CBD and future Melbourne Metro links. We explore this strategic positioning as part of our broader context analysis, as a foundation for housing intensification.

McP's work also included a detailed response to commentary from the Office of the Victorian Government Architect (OVGA), to further explain the design approach and outcomes in response to the urban context. All proposed dwellings face north and are dual-aspect.
